The Position

Senior Fellow, Department of Cancer Immunology

Genentech Research and Early Development's (gRED) Department of Cancer Immunology is seeking an experienced cellular immunologist to serve in a senior scientific leadership role at the level of Fellow/Senior Fellow.

Reporting directly to the Vice President of Cancer Immunology, the candidate will establish an exciting, creative and independent research program addressing fundamental problems in cancer, and more broadly in immunology/inflammation, with attention paid to those problems that may yield or validate therapeutic targets and new drug candidates. Supported by the unparalleled resources available to Genentech scientists, including having access to and actively participate in our unique collaborative environment, the position will play a significant role in facilitation Genentech's mission.

The candidate will serve as a mentor for scientists through direct, indirect, formal and/or information reporting relationships and contribute to the scientific community internally and externally.

Qualifications

  • PhD, MD, MD/PhD, or equivalent in Immunology or related discipline
  • Proven record of scientific recognition as evidenced by a superb publication record, invitations to major international conferences, and other activities associated with scientific recognition
  • At least 10 years of leading an independent research laboratory with a sustained record of scholarly achievements, as evidenced by publications in high impact journals
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully lead and manage a focused group in their lab or program/ project team
  • Exceptional communication
  • Outstanding partnering skills with internal and external experts to successfully lead a program or collaboration

Responsibilities

  • In this position, the candidate will be part of the Cancer Immunology and Research Senior Staff team
  • She/he will strategize and coordinate research efforts for her/his lab
  • She/he will be responsible for resource and budget planning of own lab
  • Inspire, mentor, coach, and manage researchers and scientists her/his reporting line

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of South San Francisco ,CA is $207,300 - $385,100. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance.
