Job Description
The Position

We advance science so that we all have more time with the people we love.

The Maddalo Lab in the Department of Translational Oncology at Genentech is seeking a motivated and curious Scientist 3 to leverage somatically engineered mouse models (SEMMs) to contribute to the translation of drugs in the oncology drug discovery process.

In addition to relevant expertise in mouse models, this role will require the ability to conceive, plan, and conduct independent research that has treatment of cancer and/or drug resistance as its ultimate purpose. A solid experience with genome editing techniques (CRISPR/Cas9), proteomics and basic molecular biology techniques (eg FACS, western blotting and immunoprecipitation) is a big plus.

The Department of Translational Oncology is part of Genentech Research and Early Development (gRED): scientists in gRED are at the interface between academic and industry research and are expected to present their research in publications as well as international conferences in addition to intra- and inter-departmental meetings. Postdoctoral or industry experience is a plus but not required.

The Opportunity:

  • Utilizing in vitro, in vivo, and ex vivo model systems to generate hypothesis and investigate new targets in oncology.

  • Culture and characterization of ex-vivo tumor-derived cells.

  • Design, generation and characterization of novel SEM models.

  • Design, execution, and analysis of single cell transcriptomic assays.

  • Learning new assays, techniques, and analysis tools as necessary to characterize retinal cell therapies.

  • Collaboration and communication with scientists across different departments.

Who You Are:

Successful Candidates Will Meet Many of the Following Requirements:

  • Ph.D degree in cell biology, molecular biology, molecular oncology, genome editing, immunology, or related field.

  • First author high-impact publication(s) in top tier journals is a plus.

  • Willingness to perform hands-on work on animal models.

  • Experience with a broad range of techniques in the field of genome editing, biochemistry, cell biology or related fields and with animal models of cancer.

  • The desire and ability to take on challenging projects that might not always succeed.

  • Interest in and excitement for learning new experimental and analysis techniques.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Extensive experience with CRISPR models.

  • A strong background in lung cancer.

  • The ability to perform and analyze assays such as scRNA-seq, flow cytometry and proteomics.

  • Experience in bioinformatics and/or computational science.

Relocation benefits are available for this job posting.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is $100,200 - 186,000 of hiring range. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
