SUMMARY

The Graphic Designer for Montgomery County is responsible for creating visually compelling and informative materials to support various county departments, programs, and initiatives. This role involves collaborating with internal stakeholders to develop graphics, layouts, and visual assets that effectively communicate key messages and enhance the county's public outreach efforts.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design and produce a wide range of print and digital materials, including brochures, flyers, posters, signage, reports, infographics, and social media graphics;
  • Collaborate with county departments and program managers to conceptualize and execute visual communication projects that align with organizational objectives and target audience needs;
  • Develop creative concepts, layouts, and designs that effectively convey complex information, data, and ideas in a visually appealing and accessible format;
  • Ensure consistency and adherence to brand guidelines across all county communications materials, maintaining a cohesive visual identity and brand presence;
  • Utilize graphic design software and tools to create high-quality graphics and multimedia content, incorporating typography, color theory, and visual hierarchy principles;
  • Stay informed about design trends, best practices, and emerging technologies to enhance design capabilities and effectiveness;
  • Manage multiple design projects simultaneously, prioritizing deadlines and delivering projects on time and within budget;
  • Collaborate with printers, vendors, and external partners to coordinate production and ensure quality control of printed materials;
  • Provide design support and guidance to county staff, offering expertise on design principles, file formats, and printing specifications;
  • Adapt designs for various platforms and audiences, optimizing graphics for web, social media, email, and other digital channels as needed.

  • Bachelor's degree in graphic design, visual communications, or a related field;
  • Proven experience in graphic design, preferably in a government, nonprofit, or public sector setting;
  • Proficiency in graphic design software such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and other design tools;
  • Strong portfolio showcasing creative design projects, including print and digital materials, branding, and visual storytelling;
  • Excellent design skills with a keen eye for detail, composition, and typography;
  • Ability to interpret and translate complex information into engaging and visually appealing designs.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders;
  • Organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of printing processes, file formats, and production techniques;
  • Commitment to quality, creativity, and continuous improvement in design work.
