Job Description

Surplus and Specialty Lines Senior Actuarial Analyst

Position Summary:

Perform actuarial pricing and predictive analytic support to the Surplus & Specialty division within Crum & Forster. Work closely with data stakeholders and provide actuarial recommendations to help maintain the long-term profitability of the portfolio.

What you will do:

    Assist with annual profitability study: maintain and improve upon the existing analysis template and corresponding data process, select underlying assumptions, assist with implementing proposals resulting from the analysis.
  • Perform annual reinsurance analysis, communicate findings to management, provide indications under alternative treaty structures, and work closely with our internal reinsurance team and external broker to ensure a successful treaty placement.
  • Assist with other annual analysis projects such as ILF updates, trend analysis, loss cost updates, etc.
  • Work closely with Underwriting, Operations & IT on database-related projects. Communicate Actuarial's needs and assist with requirement gathering and testing.
  • Perform monthly Rate Monitor process. Review outlier accounts, respond to Underwriter feedback, publish the results. Incorporate new data sources into the process as they become available, and streamline the overall workflow.
  • Provide ad hoc data and analysis to assist management as necessary relating to business opportunities as they arise.

What you will bring to C&F

  • B.S in mathematics or actuarial science
  • Successful completion of 5+ actuarial exams preferred.
  • 3+ years of pricing experience.
  • General knowledge of casualty lines pricing, experience in general liability, commercial auto and/or excess preferred.
  • Proficient in MS Office products, and Microsoft SQL or SQL related programming language.
  • Working knowledge of VBA and Snowflake is a plus.
  • Good communication skills and a go-getter personality.
  • Junior level candidates with good potential will also be considered.

The annualized base pay for the advertised position, located in the specified area, ranges from a minimum of $61,600.00 to a maximum of $140,000.00. The actual compensation is determined by various factors, including but not limited to the market pay for the jobs at each level, the responsibilities and skills required for each job, and the employee's contribution (performance) in that role. To be considered within market range, a salary is at or above the minimum of the range. You may also have the opportunity to participate in discretionary equity (stock) based compensation and/or performance-based variable pay programs.
