Job Summary:

The position is at the Institute on Disabilities at Temple University -- Pennsylvania's University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities Education, Research, and Service. The purpose of a Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities is to provide university and community training, innovative services and supports, technical assistance, research, and dissemination to support people with disabilities in their pursuit of independence, productivity, community inclusion, and overall quality of life.

The Lead Research Associate (Lead RA) will develop and implement a variety of research and evaluation activities. Specifically, the Lead RA will support several data-driven reports. They will read and interpret statistical output and search secondary data sources and research articles for relevant information. They will also help the team create accessible ways of sharing study findings and important information. The position reports to the Assistant Director of Research.

Performs other duties as assigned.

People with lived experience of intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) are uniquely qualified to guide and participate in inclusive disability research. Having someone with lived experience of IDD on a research team informs research questions, shapes research design, and identifies barriers and strategies for collecting data and sharing findings. This improves the research and results in stronger, more relevant research outcomes.

We are looking for someone to bring their unique lived experience to our research team to help us make sure our work is the most inclusive it can be. This is a hybrid work opportunity which means you can work from home some days, and in the office others.

Required Education & Experience:

Bachelors' Degree in a human service, behavioral science, education field or other related field; (3) three years of experience with an emphasis on evaluation and project planning (preferably at a University Center for Excellence); Knowledge of the field of disabilities, especially federal, state and local policies and services concerning people with disabilities; research experience in disabilities or related field; Statewide travel is required. An equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be considered.

Essential Functions of Position:

  • Provide technical assistance to the PA Office of Developmental Programs to assist in the implementation of Independent Monitoring for Quality throughout Pennsylvania and the timely production of reports.
  • Work on the project team for the Pennsylvania Office of Vocational Rehabilitation Comprehensive Statewide Needs Assessment research evaluation project.
  • Participate in an annual evaluation of the Institute's accomplishments and outcomes.
  • Participate in the conduct of actual research and evaluation of programs of the Institute on Disabilities
  • Provide support for funding opportunities through grants and contracts to sustain and expand the research and evaluation activities of the Institute on Disabilities.
  • Coordinate university IRB approval for Independent Monitoring for Quality.
  • Assist in updating national databases
  • Provide support for the team's student researchers.
  • Attend Research and Evaluation team and project meetings
  • Maintain regular communication with project team members and funders
  • Engage in professional development and networking

This position is assigned a hybrid work arrangement (on-campus and remote), the duration of this hybrid work arrangement is at the discretion of Temple University and the Department.
