Position Description

Princeton HealthCare System is currently searching for a full time, days Certified Endoscopy Technician for the University Medical Center at Princeton.

The Endoscopy Tech is responsible for the following:
  • Directs patients to changing area and explain changing routine.
  • Assembles the necessary equipment and supplies according to type of procedure performed.
  • Know the specific use of all equipment to be used.
  • Position stretcher and assist in positioning patient on stretcher.
  • Assists in connecting patient to cardiac monitor: BP cuff, EKG leads, Pulse oximeter, and forehead temperature strip.
  • Assists physician and Registered Nurse with Endoscopy procedure.
  • Assists in providing a safe and efficient environment for all endoscopy patients.
  • Observes progress of procedure and provides additional equipment, supplies or other items to physician as needed.
  • Knowledgeable about specimen preparation, labeling and handling. 
  • Knowledgeable of and practices principles of infection control, Universal Precautions and of sterilization/disinfection principles. This includes using Personal Protective Equipment whenever exposure to blood/body fluids likely.
  • Post procedure cleans contaminated procedure areas and changes suction bottle(s).
  • Removes contaminated scope to work room.
  • Assists in cleaning, processing contaminated scopes and instruments according to Endoscopy Department policy and procedure.
  • Re-stocks rooms with supplies. Anticipates needs of additional supplies. Notify Coordinator or designee of supply shortage.
  • Process and wrap biopsy forceps as per policy and procedure.
  • Enter patient charges in computer documentation system.
  • Empty syringe boxes when ¾ full.
  • Attends unit staff meetings.
  • Knows procedure for scheduling patients for all GI procedures. Knowledgeable about how to pre-register the Endoscopy patients.
  • Other duties as assigned by Registered Nurse.
  • Maintains confidentiality.
  • Possesses basic knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to meet patient’s needs within various growth and developmental needs.
  • Endoscopy Technicians who have Operating Room experience and are competent according to OR orientation, education and annual competencies may be floated to the OR when need arises and staffing permits.

 Qualified candidates will have the following:
  • High school graduate
  • BLS preferred
  • Must have or be willing to sit for certification through CBSPD in endoscopy reprocessing of scopes
  • Must have one year experience working in endoscopy procedure room and workroom reprocessing scopes
  • Good written and verbal skills
